"You have to do whatever it takes to be successful when times are tough. Then, when times turn around, you are in a position to reap the harvest," Lane says.
Part of Lane's "whatever it takes" creed includes spending considerable money on improving their facilities and their image, including the $1.5 million-plus the dealership will spend in advertising and marketing. Much of that money will be spent in the community with over 400 charities reaping the benefits of the Lane family generosity. Ads, promotion, public relations, and media placement are handled by Lane's daughter, Saundra. Saundra's input has not only helped Gerry Lane Enterprises stay near the top of the state's auto dealers in sales but also has helped build name recognition that is higher than some of the oldest Baton Rouge businesses or Lafayette GMC or Buick Dealers. "When people think of buying a car, we want them to think of us first," she says.
Lane's son Eric, a former catcher for the San Francisco Giants, is the Vice-President of Gerry Lane Enterprises. He wears many hats for the family business and the entire family thrives on the healthy competition between the Buick-GMC- Hummer-Saab stores. Eric's customers range from his Tulane baseball fans and friends to San Francisco Giants coaches and players. Eric is active in a number of organizations and holds daily meetings at each of the dealerships to keep things in check.
Gerry's wife, Faye Rogan Lane, the first and former Louisiana Oil Queen and family cheerleader, encourages her busy family to continue their strong work ethics and remember to keep their faith first. She has ridden through the rough times and is now enjoying the successes of her family's hard work for over 50 years.

I really like Gerry Ln, I drove about 50 miles to purchase my pickup from Gerry Ln and have told several people from Amite and the fire dept how pleased I am with Gerry Ln. The only thing that bothered me is when I purchased my trunk I started using Sirus radio. Never noticed that I did not have an antenna for am-fm radio. When I discontinued my Sirus radio is when I found out I had no antenna. To make a long story short Gerry Ln would not give me an antenna, so I had to purchase one. I brought in my 12 Gmc Acadia because the airbag needed service. Scott in the service dept was very courteous and explained that the part had to be ordered and set me up in a loaner. The vehicle was ready when he said it would be. He was also helpful in referring me to Aaron in the body dept. My vehicle had been hit in the rear last year and the paint was not an exact match when I got it back. I was upset because the shop I brought it to said it was the same color. Aaron told me how to get the shop to correct the problem and I now have an appt for it to be done. I did not buy my Acadia at Gerry Lane but was very pleased at the service I had there. Brought in my 2011 Lacrosse for not starting without jump off, drink holder cover would not close and rear drink cup holder was stuck. Battery had to be replaced because of acid leak. Rear drink holder was out of alignment, but was adjusted and works fine. The whole center console had to be removed which was time consuming, but staff kept me informed of every stage. I had numerous errands to run since it was my day off. Kevin told me the car would be tied up till late afternoon, so he rented me a car to get errands done.
